Goodbye Evony

I have been playing a free browser based MMO game called Evony: Age I for about 10 months, ever since August 2009. It is a western based medieval game where you can build/manage castles and train heroes and troops. You can then team up with other people to form alliances, and fight wars with each other.

I started in Server 62 and enrolled in an alliance called MISTify. We have gone through a lot of adventures and wars with other alliances ever since, and have gone through one server merge with S61 (we are now in SS17). MISTify is now ranked the 3rd best alliance in terms of prestige, and we are surely a force to reckon with.

Unfortunately, although I have enjoyed the game a lot, and have made a lot of friends in the game, I have decided to leave the game as farming food for my troops had gotten too time consuming. The inability to make money out of this game was also another deciding factor in leaving the game, as it was a very poor return of investment of my time and effort spent.

Achievements:
- Created a 10+ million prestige account with 9 cities and millions of troops. Account is ranked within top 15 in the server, out of the thousands of players playing in it.
- Each city had a minimum of 100k warriors, 100k pikesmen, 100k swordsmen, 300k archers, 20k cavalry, 10k catapracs, 5k transports, 5k ballistas, 2k rams, and 1k catapults. Wall defenses include 1k traps, 1k abatis, 1k logs, 1k trebs, and 15k archer towers.
- Highest ATK hero of 470 (ranked within top 60 in the server), with each city defended by a hero with ATK of minimum 300.

Thumbnails of my game achievements can be found below:

(I will sure miss you guys and gals of MISTify and SS17, sob, sob, sob...)

MISTify: How to handle the Reapers problem

Insights:
- Reapers have huge army, which is both a strength and a liability for them. Strength because their armies gives them great offense and defense powers. Liability because they have big a headache of feeding their huge armies with food.

Handling Reapers:
- They are stronger than us [1], but we can surely irritate them like hell!!! Nyadi, nyadi, nyah, nyah... If you can't Beat them, then at least you can Piss them!!!
- Give resources to a low prestige player in your alliance. Ask him to build scouts or army. Send those to constantly take over the resource fields owned by the Reapers. The Reapers player will have to waste his time and army to retake back their resource fields.
- Ask a low prestige player with only one city to send out a 1 archer attack, with a camp time of 999 hours and 99 minutes to the Reapers city. His (the Reapers) reports will be flashing red constantly, giving him no peace of mind. The further away that player from the Reapers the better, as they will have no effective way to counterattack. (Remember to cancel the attack just before it reaches the enemies city...)
- Reapers will have to constantly do Barbarian NPC farming in order to feed their armies. So, send your ballistas and transporters out to raid all the NPCs near the Reapers. They will then have to go farther away to farm, which is going to be a big headache for them!!!
- If your city is going to be attacked by Reapers, and if you are not able to get enough reinforcements from your alliance, send all your army and resources (via transporters or workers) to a far, far, away land, or to your other city or your alliance's cities. That way, Reapers is not able to plunder you. This will piss them off, considering they need to waste tons of food to send their armies to attack your empty city, and they come back empty handed, wahahaaha!!! If your walls defenses are inferior compared to the attacking army, you can even demolish all of your defenses for resources, and immediately queue/use up all those for rebuilding ATs again...
- If you are being attacked by a Reapers player (or by any other enemy), and you are online in Evony, please immediately ask for reinforcements via the alliance chat with the words: "REAPERS ATTACKING ME in XX minutes time: PLEASE REINFORCE ... enemy army size X archers, Y swordsmen, etc", and paste in the xml report and enemy coords (if available) to the alliance chat. That way, alliance members and leaders can decide how best to help you in your dilemma. [2], [3]

Footnotes:
[1] As of end September 2009, Reapers have been known to send out 200k archer armies for attacking.
[2] As members of the same alliance, we sure would like to send you reinforcements to help successfully defend your city. But, we also don't want to see our defense army wiped out!!! Remember to upgrade your Embassy to as high a level as possible, so that more reinforcements can arrive to your city. Upgrade your Beacon Tower, and research your Informatics to as high a level possible, so that you can provide us with useful attackers information. Also, make sure you have large net production of food to support your reinforcements.
[3] Bring food to the city you are reinforcing, just in case they don't have the capacity to support your army. Upgrade your Relief Station to as high a level as possible, so that your reinforcements can reach the defending city faster.

Hand Foot and Mouth Disease 2009

Starting during the month of May 2009, there seems to be a Hand Foot and Mouth Disease outbreak happening here in PJ/KL area.

Very hot weather in Klang Valley during the past 2 months, and occasionally there is smell of smoke from open-air burning (forest clearnings from Indonesia?, or local burning?) during most of May.

Gardening

I have started growing some plants, herbs, fruits and vegetables in a 20 square foot plot of land:
- Turmeric (Kunyit).
- Ginger.
- Blue Ginger.
- White Garlic.
- Spring Onions.
- Rose Onions.
- Red Onions.
- Yellow Onions.
- Thai Shallots.
- Lemongrass Serai.
- Basil.
- Russett Potato.
- Pink Potato.
- White Potato.
- Holland Potato.
- Sweet Potato.
- Yam.
- Baby Yam (Taro).
- Carrots.
- Australian Beet Root.
- Lotus Root.
- Turnip (Sengkuang).
- Red Spinach (Bayam Merah).

I do not intend to use artificial petrochemical-based fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides for my garden, as these have harmful long-term side effects. I am aware that some plants act as natural pest-insect repellants, and growing certain combinations of plants will help each other to grow better, so I will do some research to investigate these. Plant droppings and unused plant parts will be mixed with sand and soil to form compost, which is a natural form of fertilizer that will make the soil fertile. (Hey, it takes the plants time and effort, together with sunlight, water, soil, and the air to create plant matter, so better not waste it. This will also help to recycle the minerals absorbed by the plant roots back into the soil.)

Some of the milestones I am looking forward to for my gardening adventure are:
- First Harvest. Can get to enjoy eating the first harvest, and to reuse some of the seeds and plants for the next planting. Remember to store additional seeds into a seed bank too!!!
- First Expansion. Possible expansion sites include the unused garden plots at Level 4 and Level 2, along with the mini-garden at P2 basement. The condominium that I live in has a total of about 2500 to 3000 residents. The challenge is to see if I can plant enough fruits, vegetables, and grains to feed these amount of people, so as to achieve food self-sufficiency for our community.
- First Transfer. I intend to handover some of the garden plots to my parents and neighbours once they are fully operational. They will then need to regularly water the plants (and also enjoy the harvest too).

Emergency Supplies

I have started planning and buying emergency supplies of daily household items like canned and dried food, water/drinks, healthcare and bodycare products, and medicinal/first aid items. This is mainly for peace of mind, knowing that my family will have adequate provisions, in the unlikely event of supply disruption caused by unforseen emergencies.

Basically, the idea is to store enough family supplies for a three to six months usage. It is a bit troublesome, though, as you have to provide suitable space to store these items, along with constantly replacing items that are near their expiry dates.

Pharmacy Stores in Malaysia

These are the pharmacy stores available in PJ/KL area in Malaysia:
- Caring Pharmacy
- Constant Pharmacy
- Guardian Pharmacy
- Watsons Pharmacy

I personally prefer Caring Pharmacy, as I find the items there to be cheaper than both Guardian and Watsons. Caring Pharmacy also accepts the BonusLink loyalty card, so you can earn points when you make purchases from them. Instead of cash, you can also pay for items in Caring Pharmacy with your BonusLink points. Basically, you get a RM 10 rebate for every 960 BonusLink points that you use for payment.

My parents prefer Constant Pharmacy, which has their own loyalty card.

Watsons Pharmacy accept the RealRewards loyalty card, so remember to use it when purchasing items from the store.

During certain sales seasons, Guardian Pharmacy offers a RM 5 voucher for every RM 50 purchased. The vouchers have a 7 day expiry date though, so they need to be used quickly.

Book Stores in PJ and KL area

Here is a list of book stores located around Petaling Jaya and Kuala Lumpur area, Malaysia:
- 1 Utama, Damansara - MPH Bookstore
- AmCorp Mall, PJ - Popular Bookstore
- Berjaya Times Square, KL - Borders Bookstore
- Gardens Mid Valley, KL - Borders Bookstore
- Ikano, Damansara - Popular Bookstore
- KLCC Suria, KL - Kinokuniya Bookstore
- Mid Valley MegaMall, KL - MPH Bookstore
- Pavillion, KL - Times Bookstore
- Subang Parade, PJ - MPH Bookstore
- Sunway Pyramid, PJ - MPH Bookstore, Popular Bookstore
- The Curve, Damansara - Borders Bookstore, MPH Bookstore

If you regularly buy books, it is recommended that you apply for membership cards. MPH and Popular offers such cards, which gives you perks like book rebates, book discounts, etc. The MPH card costs RM 20 for a 2-year subscription, with the following perks:
- You get 5% rebates (in the form of book vouchers) when you purchase more than RM 300 worth of books. You get 10% rebates if your purchases are more than RM 1,000. The offer repeats for each half of the year.
- More information about the MPH membership card can be found here.

You get vouchers also by buying books at MPH Bookstores during the month of December (Xmas season), and August (Malaysian National Day). Every RM 60 worth of books purchased during this period will entitle you to a RM 5 book voucher, immediately given to you upon purchase.

My plan is to buy about RM 1,000 worth of financial books every year, for my educational purposes. Then, to legally claim back a RM 1,000 tax deduction from my yearly income tax declaration.
